"The dramatic growth of gambling is not the result of a popular movement. Rather, it is driven by the gambling industry with its high priced lobbyists and pie-in-the-sky promises. In response volunteer citizens have formed state and local groups to oppose the spread of gambling. In May 1994 some of these groups from across the United States came together to create the National Coalition Against Legalized Gambling (NCALG). By educating the public about the negative consequences of gambling, NCALG will not only stop its expansion, but roll back this menace that is destroying our society." |

The Department of Mental Health is dedicated to combating the stigma associated with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance addiction. For most people, the extent of their gambling is a dollar to enter the office Super Bowl pool. But for others, gambling is an addiction that - not unlike an addiction to alcohol or other drugs - can lead to a seemingly inescapable web of problems. |
