Some Missouri Republicans and Democrats are shamelessly using our children's education funding as a front for expanding gambling by removing the $500 loss limit. Senator John Loudon's bill exposes this hoax while demonstrating that more education revenue can be raised without expanding gambling or increasing the number of families (60,000) that are currently suffering from gambling addiction. The promoters of gambling expansion will do all they can to defeat the Loudon bill. Your voice will make a difference. Please call or write your elected officials today to request their support for SB387.

SB387-Requires slot machines to be individually licensed and limits boats with slot machines to the current 11 -- Loudon, John (R-7) This is a fine bill. It recognizes how harmful casinos and slot machines are to the people of Missouri. It caps the number of casinos that can have slot machines at 11, and collects a license fee for every machine. This is not a tax but a license fee. Missouri currently has 17,500 such machines and Pinnacle proposes to bring in 5,000 more! At a fee of $10,000 per machine per year, the State would realize an annual income of $225,000,000. This bill would tend to drive down the number of highly addictive slot machines to a more reasonable number (Illinois has a cap of 9600 slot machines).

The casinos are feverishly lobbying against Loudon's SB387.

SB386-Calls for a Study of the cost of gambling before any new expansion -- Loudon, John (R-7) Senator Loudon has asked for this bill for the last 4 years. It is very important but hardly ever gets a hearing. We are indebted to the Senator for his desire to bring unbiased truth on the cost of gambling in Missouri to light. It is unfortunate that our lawmakers find places to use our tax money, but are not willing to carve out enough for this study.
